Biography

My name is James Nairne and I'm Head of Art at Abingdon School, in Oxfordshire where I teach drawing, painting, printmaking and graphic design.

I always wanted to be an artist and designer from an early age and have kept drawing pads and sketchbooks for as long as I can remember. My current favorite sketchpad is an A6 Seawhite black hardbound landscape pad but the Roberson "Bushy" which is slightly larger than A6 was a favourite for a long time.

I haven't always worked from landscape but it is the genre that I always seem to return to. My interest in the relationship between photography and image making has developed because I began taking photographs to enable me to finish paintings that I started on site. Seeing the world interpreted through photographs began to change the way I perceived the world. (although now am I not so sure that it isn't the other way round – The pictures I take reflect how I see the world)

I am a bit of a Photoshop wiz and mac geek and have been 'online' since 1994

As a committed Christian, I enjoy relating what I do to my faith.

I am married to a doctor and we have two daughters.
